What Is a
Baptist?
What We Believe
On January 22, 2012 Southport Baptist Church called Steve and
Fayth Taylor as Associate Pastor and wife. Read about them below after
Pastor Jones.

Dr. Gordon
Scott Jones was installed as our pastor on July 12, 2009. We called him
from
Wild Rose Baptist Church in Wild Rose, WI where he ministered for the
previous eight years.
While ministering
at Wild Rose, he received his Master of Ministries and his Doctor of Sacred
Ministries, both from what is now known as Northland International University. During his
tenure there the church, in existence for 135 years,
erected a new building (below)
and moved
from one built in the early 20th century.
Wild Rose Baptist
Church called Pastor Jones from Maranatha Baptist Church of Phillips, WI.
where he was the founding pastor. Right out of Bible College, he
ministered there for nine years.
An unusual ministry of Maranatha Baptist was a missionary aviation school.
The school has
graduates on the mission field at this writing.
Since being
awarded his doctorate, Pastor Jones has taught modules in seminaries in
Brazil & Kenya. He has also visited Israel with a college study group.
In spite of all
his varied experiences, Pastor Jones only turned 42 on February 18.
In addition to his
ministries here at Southport, he has found time to teach classes and coach soccer
at Union Grove Christian School. He has also assisted the basketball coach. The
soccer team
won the 2009 Wisconsin
Association
of Christian Schools Championship. The boy's basketball
team also won the state championship.
If you don't see him in one of these
locations, you might
try a nearby golf course.
He shoots in the 80s.

While at Wild
Rose, Pastor Jones published a devotional commentary on the Gospel of John
entitled "Light on Eternal Life."
If you are interested in a copy contact him. We are
including the
preface here:
Light
on Eternal Life - The Gospel of John
Preface
From the time I
first learned to read (which was not all that long ago) I opened to
the gospel of
John, and soon after began to memorize the first
verses. It has always been a special book to me,
probably
because it presents such an intimate perspective of my Savior.
It is a book of personal
interviews, and one who gives it honest,
concentrated study cannot help but feel as though he
has had a
personal encounter with Christ.
This book is
comprised of expository messages that I was privileged to preach in
two churches,
Maranatha Baptist of Phillips, Wisconsin, and Wild
Rose Baptist, also in Wisconsin. So far they seem
to have
survived, and they were very gracious to give me encouragement
during the long series.
The concept of a
"Devotional Commentary," at least in my mind, is a commentary that
goes
beyond informing its readers to challenging them.
"Devotional" means "used in worship." While
these messages
were delivered in worship services originally, hopefully they can
now be a part
of the private Bible study and worship of individuals
or small groups.
The perspective employed in these pages is that of a Baptist
Fundamentalist. Hopefully, though,
above all else, this
teaching has come from the Word of God and has remained true to it.
The
reader will also notice that this is a strongly evangelistic
commentary which, I believe, is a
direct reflection of the thrust of
this gospel. You might say it is the gospel gospel! Let
me
encourage readers who already know Jesus as their Savior to make
good use of the many
different approaches and appeals to lost souls.

Associate Pastor Steve Taylor

In the photo above are Fayth, Novah, and Steve
Steve Taylor was born and raised in a Godly Christian
home in Iowa and placed his trust in Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 9. During high school,
he joined the Army National Guard where he served for 8 years.
He has graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College, Maranatha Baptist
Bible College, and then went on to graduate from Medical School
in 2008. Steve enjoys bicycling, tennis, fishing, woodworking,
spending time with his family, and being involved in the Lord's
work. He is currently working as a physician's assistant at
Kenosha Medical Center in Kenosha, WI.
Steve currently
writes devotionals for the Baptist Bread, a bi-monthly devotional
publication, and also composes articles for publication in the
