Welcome to our
little corner of cyberspace! I don't know how you found us but I'm sure
glad you did.
If you're one of the more than three million souls who live within thirty miles
of us, we'd love
to have you come and visit! Check our Service Times page and then join
us at one of these
convenient services. Even if you don't live close enough to worship with
us regularly, look
around
the site. You could literally find something of eternal value.
You will find people at Southport
Baptist Church who will greet you with love
and respect. Our
purpose is to help ordinary people find a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ, and see them
develop into mature Christians using the gifts that God has given each of them.
Perhaps you're
wondering why a church eight miles from Lake Michigan is named "Southport."
The city of Kenosha is the southernmost port in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan and
its original
name was Southport.
There are malls,
banks, parks, and many other locations throughout
the area with the designation
"Southport."
Where in the world are you?
More important: where are you going to spend eternity?
Below is a synopsis of our pages in alphabetic order:
"Gift" - If you haven't yet received God's gift of eternal life, find out how here.
"Happenings"
- As a local body of believers, most of us enjoy each other's company.
Therefore, we have many
"happenings." Some of these are traditional and occur annually. Others may happen only
once.
In either case our goal is our common encouragement to be all each of us can be for Jesus, the
One
who died for us. This page will have photos and comments from past happenings and a list
with dates for future
ones. Enjoy!
"Map"
-
The Google interactive map on this page should help find directions from your
starting point to us
from anywhere in the United States.
"Missions" - We believe that missions aren't just an
arm of the local church; they are the very reason for the local church!
This page will let
you see how we obey the Lord's command to send the light of the gospel to the
ends of the earth.
"Our Pastor" - Meet our pastor and find out a little about him and his family.
"Present the Gospel" - If you, as a believer, find it difficult to present the Gospel to the lost around you, click here.
"Service Times" -
Here is a list of your opportunities to worship God and fellowship with His
people. We've included
the topics for the adults in our four weekly services.
"What is a Baptist?"
- A lot of churches have abandoned their denominational names for fear of
"turning off"
people. If brands really turned people off, why do the canned goods in
every grocery
store have labels? We are happy to be known as Baptists. The name
was first applied
to the person God sent to prepare the world for His Son. He was called
John the
Baptist.
We don't claim him as our progenitor but we believe everything he taught.
This
page will
describe eight distinctive beliefs the holding of all of which makes one a
Baptist. Notice
that these distinctive beliefs form an acrostic that spells "BAPTISTS."
"What We Believe" -
Because we are an independent, Baptist church, we are not required
by any
organization to hold to a prescribed set of beliefs. Therefore, it is
important for anyone
who is interested to know our basic beliefs. This page will describe those
for you.
